Getting Started with the Audience Network

Facebook's Audience Network allows you to monetize your iOS and Android apps, as well as mobile websites with targeted ads.
Follow this guide to set up Audience Network in your apps and mobile websites:
Once you have a FB App ID, you can setup the SDK (app) or JavaScript tagging (mobile web) and start testing placement IDs right away!
Please note: At this stage, test ads will only be served to admins and developers of your app or mobile website. Once you generate one request, we will confirm your app or mobile website meets our guidelines within a few business days. We'll then update you when Facebook Ads will be served to everyone from your app or mobile website.
The Audience Network SDK is part of the Facebook SDK. For mobile apps, please download the SDK from the link listed below if you have not already:
For mobile web, see information about deploying our JavaScript tags here.

Step 1: Get a FB App ID

To get started, you must be logged into Facebook.

[1] Click the green Start Now button

[2] Get a FB App ID. You can either choose an existing app or create a new FB App ID.

[2a] To choose an existing app, select it from the drop-down menu.

[2b] To create a new FB App ID, enter your app name and choose a category.

[2c] Once you have your FB App ID, you'll proceed to your developer dashboard. Review and accept the
Audience Network Terms and the Audience Network Policy.

Step 2: [Mobile Web] Provide your domain name

[1] To use Audience Network for mobile websites, select 'Add a domain' and provide the domain name where you would like to show ads (e.g. http://domain.com/).

[2] You will be able to see the review status of your domain by considering the color coded indicator.
- Orange represents a new domain waiting for an ad request - Yellow indicates a domain is being reviewed - Green signifies that a domain has been approved for ad delivery and is showing live ads to public users - Red will show when a domain has not been approved for ad delivery.
If you intend to show Audience Network Ads on multiple subdomains within your domain then please start by inputing your base level domain. After this you can send ad requests from additional subdomains and these will then be reviewed.
We recommend creating a new FB App ID for each new domain you would like to integrate.

Step 3: Create Placement IDs

Audience Network offers 3 types of ad units: banner, interstitial (app only), and native ads. Each ad unit in your app or mobile website is identified using a unique placement ID. The first step in adding an ad unit is to create this identifier.

[1] Click the Create Ad Placement button to start creating placement IDs to test in your app or mobile website.

[1a] Create a separate placement for each location in your app or mobile website where you want to show ads. This will allow better insights tracking and performance calibration.

Pro tip: If you are using Audience Network for both a mobile app and a mobile website, be sure to name your placements accordingly (e.g. mweb_placement_1 and iOS_placement_1) as this will allow you to differentiate your placements and performance across platforms.

[1b] See your placement(s) or create more ad placements.

To retrieve the code snippets you need to implement into your app or mobile website, click on Get Code or Get HTML respectively.
To learn more about creating placement IDs, please refer to our FAQ. To maximize your revenue, check out best practices for the Performance Optimization tool.

Incorporate Ad Units in Your App or Mobile Website

Once you have the placement ID, follow our iOS or Android guides to add the ad units in your app.
As soon as we receive a request for an ad from your app or website (with test mode on or off), we'll review it to make sure it complies with Audience Network policies and the Facebook community standards. Learn more about our review process.
Before submitting your iOS app to Apple, please see our FAQ regarding answers to IDFA questions in their submission process.
For mobile web, follow our dedicated guides below.
See creative examples of ad units for mobile web here.

Step 4: Fill out Payout Information

To start making money on Audience Network, you'll need to fill out your company and bank information in the Payout tab.

Enter your company and payment information.

Note: If your account balance hits $100 without submitting this information, then your ads will stop running until we receive the necessary information. Learn more in the Getting Paid FAQ here.

Going Live

You will be notified by email and Facebook alert when your app is approved. Congratulations, your placements are now live and showing ads to the users of your app or mobile website.
Our system requires a minimum number of ad requests to learn about your ad inventory. Your app will be limited to a few million requests per day until the threshold is reached. You can expect fill rate and CPM fluctuations during this initial period.

Step 5: Filters and Performance

Once your app or mobile website are approved, you can set filters for ads that you show. You can also use the Performance dashboard to track revenue estimates and additional metrics like impressions and clicks.

Setting Filters

You can filter by app, domain or category. Keep in mind that restricting a large number of domains or categories can decrease your fill rate and CPMs.

[1] Enter iTunes/Google Play Store links or domains for which you do not want to receive ads in your app

[2] Filter out categories of ads you do not want to appear in your app

Don't forget: If you promote your own app with Facebook ads, you should add its store URL in the Filters section.

Performance

To access the dashboards in your settings page, click on Audience Network and then choose the Performance tab:

Learn more about performance and reporting in the Audience Network help center.
In addition, you can access your performance data via an API. Please see this guide for more info.
Check out our case studies, how to optimize performance, and our Audience Network FAQ for more information.
